Share a survey: link, QR code and embed
Hand a survey out without a campaign: copy its link, print its QR code, put it on your website, and pass a reference that is saved with each answer.
The Share panel
Open a survey and click Share, or click the share button in the builder's preview bar once the survey is saved. One panel holds every way to hand it out without a campaign.
- Link. The survey's own address, to copy or to open as a respondent.
- QR code. The same link as a code to scan, to download for print.
- Embed on a website. The code that shows the survey on a page of your own.
- Pass a reference. The link with a value of yours in it, saved with each answer.
All four are the survey's open link: anyone who has it can answer. The personal link a campaign sends each person never appears here.
Until the survey is published, its link, QR code and embed all say it does not exist. The panel warns you above the link.
QR code
Scanning the code opens the survey's link. Click Download PNG for a slide or a document, or Download SVG for print, where it stays sharp at any size. Put it on a poster, a table card, a receipt or the last slide of a talk.
The code is drawn in your browser, so the link is not sent anywhere to make it.
Embed on a website
Click Copy code under Embed on a website and paste it into your page's HTML where the survey should appear. It is an iframe that opens the survey's link with ?embed=1 added, as wide as the space it is in and 640 pixels tall. The frame keeps the height you give it, so change height in the code if your survey needs more room.
Embedded, the survey leaves out what a page of its own needs: no logo or title, because your page introduces it, and no light and dark switch, because it follows the reader's own setting. The progress, the privacy link and your survey's colours stay.
- A survey that asks people to sign in. Signing in cannot happen inside another website. Embedded, the survey shows a button that opens it in a new tab, and the panel says so under the code.
- Only surveys. A survey is the only page of Polzy another website can show. Sign-in and your workspace refuse to be shown inside one.
Pass a reference
A reference is a value of yours that travels with the link and is saved with the answer: an order number, a customer id, the shop a poster hangs in. It comes from a hidden field.
- In the builder, add a Hidden field to the survey.
- Under URL parameter name, write the parameter it reads, such as
ref. - Open Share. Under Pass a reference, the link and the embed code now end in
?ref=YOUR_VALUE. - Replace
YOUR_VALUEwith each person's value before you send the link or place the code.
A hidden field with a default value and no parameter in the link saves its default with every answer. c, token, embed and lang belong to the survey link itself, so they cannot be used as a parameter name.
Each hidden field is a column on the survey's Responses tab, headed by its title, and the search there finds a reference by its value. Read individual responses shows where.
On an anonymous survey, a reference is still saved with every answer. Pass nothing that identifies the person, such as an email address or an employee number, or the answer is no longer anonymous. The builder and the Share panel warn you about this.
Signed-in members can ask Polzy or message the team from Support. How fast we reply depends on your plan.
