Export, import and copy surveys
Save a survey as a file and bring it into another survey or workspace, copy a survey in one click, and download the list of your surveys as a spreadsheet.
On this page
There are three ways to reuse a survey. Export and Import in the builder save a survey as a file and load it back — into a new survey, or into another workspace. Duplicate survey on All surveys copies a survey in one click. And Export on All surveys downloads the list of your surveys as a spreadsheet. To download the answers to a survey, see responses.
Exporting, importing and duplicating a survey are on every plan, for Admins. Editors can download the survey list from All surveys. An import or a copy passes the same plan checks as a new survey when it is saved.
Export a survey as a file
- Open the survey in the builder.
- Open More actions (the ⋯ button in the top bar) and choose Export.
- A file named after the survey and today's date downloads, such as
Team pulse-2026-10-31.json, and Survey exported appears.
The file is what the builder shows at that moment, unsaved changes included.
| In the file | Not in the file |
|---|---|
| The title and description | The answers, and anything sent by a campaign |
| Every question and block, with its settings, logic, scoring and follow-ups | The themes chosen for the survey |
| The welcome and thank-you screens | The survey's link, status and owner |
| The button labels, the Settings tab and the Styling tab | |
| The Scoring tab's settings |
Import a survey file
Importing replaces everything in the survey that is open in the builder. To keep your existing surveys as they are, start a new one first.
- In Surveys → All surveys, choose New survey.
- Open More actions and choose Import.
- Choose the
.jsonfile you exported. Survey imported appears, and the builder now shows the file's survey: its title, questions, screens, settings, styling and scoring. - Check it, choose the survey's themes again on the Scoring tab if you use them, then choose Save draft. Nothing is saved until you do.
Importing into a survey you already have works the same way and replaces its content when you save; its link stays the same.
Move a survey to another workspace: export it in the first workspace, switch workspace, and import it into a new survey in the second. A question's theme is not carried across: themes belong to their workspace.
Duplicate a survey
- Open Surveys → All surveys.
- Open the survey's row menu (⋯) and choose Duplicate survey.
- Survey copied — you are editing the copy appears, and the copy opens in the builder.
The copy is a new draft named after the original with "(Copy)" at the end, with its own link. It has the same questions, screens, settings, scoring, themes and styling. It has none of the answers and none of the campaigns. On a plan without Custom branding, the copy gets the free styling instead of the original's own logo, colours and CSS — duplicating is never refused over a colour. Inside the builder, Duplicate on an open question copies just that question.
Download the list of surveys
On All surveys, Export downloads a CSV file of the surveys in the list — surveys-2026-10-31.csv, with today's date:
- Ticked rows only. Tick surveys in the table and the button reads Export 3 (with your count): only those are in the file, up to 500.
- Or what the list shows. With nothing ticked, the file holds every survey the tab, the search and the filters select — across all pages, not just the one on screen.
| Column | What it holds |
|---|---|
| Survey | The title. |
| Status | The status as stored, in English: draft, published, paused, completed or archived. |
| Owner | Who created it. |
| Themes | The survey's themes. |
| Questions | How many elements it has — headers, images and statements included. |
| Responses | Answers received. |
| Invited | People invited by campaigns. |
| Response rate | Responses as a share of the people invited. |
| Opened, Closes | When it opened and closes, in the workspace's time zone, which the column heading names. |
| Link | The survey's address. |
This file lists surveys, not their questions: to move a survey's content, export it as a file from the builder.
When saving an import or a copy is refused
An imported or copied survey is checked like a new one:
- Questions per survey. Up to 20 on Free, 50 on Solo and Team, 100 on Business, any number on Enterprise. Headers, images and statements do not count.
- Anonymous answers and anonymous follow-ups. Copying or importing a survey with either turned on is refused on a plan without them (Team and up). Turn them off on the Settings tab, then save.
- Custom branding. An import that brings its own colours or CSS is refused on a plan without Custom branding. Choose Reset to default beside each colour on the Styling tab and turn Custom CSS off, then save. A copy simply leaves them behind.
- Hidden fields. A hidden field whose URL parameter is
c,token,embedorlangis refused; rename it.
Troubleshooting
- Could not import that file — it is not a survey export. The file is not JSON, or has no title and questions. Export the survey again from the builder and import that file.
- Could not export the survey. Try again; if it keeps failing, save the survey first.
- The imported survey has no theme chips. Themes are not in the file. Choose them on the Scoring tab under Themes for AI analysis.
- Duplicate survey is not in the row menu, or is refused. Only Admins can duplicate a survey.
