The daily check-in asks one question — How is today going? — on the home page of the people in your workspace. It takes a tap, builds a streak, and gives you a day-by-day read of how people feel, always in groups and never one person at a time.

Every plan has it. Admins switch it on or off for the workspace. On Free it counts as one of your plan's 3 live surveys.

How it works

  • One tap. Five faces, from Rough through Not great, OK and Good to Great. After choosing one, a person can add a note and choose Send.
  • Once a day. Each person can check in once per day, counted on your workspace's own calendar and time zone.
  • A survey of its own. Check-ins are stored as answers to a system survey called Daily Pulse, marked System in All surveys. Polzy creates it the first time someone opens their home page with the check-in on.
  • Notes are read like comments. Where safety signals are on, a note that describes a risk to someone's safety raises a signal, as any comment would.
The check-in card: five faces, Good chosen, an optional note and the privacy line.

Turn it on or off

  1. Open Settings in the sidebar, then the General tab.
  2. Under Participants, switch Daily check-in on or off. The change saves at once.
Settings → General → Participants: the Daily check-in switch.

A workspace started from the employee experience template has it on; workspaces for customers, products, events and plain forms start with it off. Switching it off hides the card and refuses new check-ins. What people already answered is kept, under your retention period.

The check-in is a live survey. On Free, which allows 3 live surveys, it only starts when there is room for one more. Until then, members see The daily check-in starts once the plan has room for another live survey. Close a survey or move to a plan with more room. Every paid plan has unlimited live surveys.

What members see

The check-in appears on the home page of members who sign in as Viewers. Admins and Editors open on the dashboard instead, so they do not see the card.

  1. The card asks How is today going? — "One tap. Takes a second."
  2. They choose a face. A note field appears with Add a note (optional), up to 500 characters.
  3. They choose Send and see Thanks for checking in. For the rest of the day the card says You've checked in today.

Under the faces, a line tells them how private it is: Only ever shown in a group of at least 5 people. Never on its own. — with your workspace's own minimum group size.

Above the card: their own check-in average and their response streak.

Above the card, two tiles are for the person alone:

  • Your check-in average. Their mood over their recent check-ins, on a scale of 10, with how it moved this fortnight.
  • Response streak. How many days in a row they checked in over the last fortnight. A streak is not broken in the morning, only when a whole day passes without a check-in.

How private it is

  • Stored without a name. A check-in is kept like an anonymous answer: no name on it, only the groups the person was in, so it can be counted by department or location. A code tells Polzy the person already checked in today without saying who they are.
  • Only in groups. Moods are shown only for groups that reach your minimum group size, counted in people: ten check-ins from one person are one person.
  • Never to a manager. Check-ins are never shown in an Editor's reporting line, never when results are narrowed to individual people, and their notes are never listed on the Comments page.
  • The person's own history. To draw someone's own average and streak, Polzy can find their own check-ins. Nobody else is shown them.

Where the results show

  • The Daily Pulse survey. Open it from All surveys to see its results over time, like any survey. On its Responses tab, check-ins are listed by day once enough people have checked in to stay anonymous.
  • Analytics. Choose the Daily Pulse survey to follow mood over time and compare groups that reach the minimum group size. See Results and analytics.

Troubleshooting

The daily check-in starts once the plan has room for another live survey. — your Free plan already has 3 live surveys. Close one, or upgrade.

Could not save your check-in — the check-in did not go through. Try again in a moment.

Members do not see the card — the check-in is switched off under Participants, or they are Admins or Editors, whose home page is the dashboard.

You've checked in today — each person checks in once a day. The day changes at midnight in your workspace's time zone.

Good to know

  • Check-ins are deleted with your other answers when they pass Keep answers for.
  • The question and the five faces are the same in every workspace, and appear in each member's own language.
